Running a business can be empowering.  It can provide you with flexibility, opportunities, and independence.  It can also be quite stressful.  With all the pressure to run a business it isn’t uncommon for business owners to experience mental health issues such as:

  • anxiety and stress
  • depression
  • substance abuse
  • relationship issues with partners, children, and other family members.

Not getting help and support for these issues can lead to burnout, relationship breakdowns, and long-term health issues.

Finding Solutions

I recently asked small business owners what they needed and the answer was clear – solutions.  These responses motivated me to make a big change in the way I work with my clients, focusing on a solution-focused approach.

The purpose of solution-focused therapy is to find a lasting solution to the problems you’re experiencing now.  We do this by believing that:

  • change is constant and normal
  • you are the expert in your life, and
  • you already have the ability to create positive change within you.

Business owners aren’t silos.  Just as stress from your work life seeps into your home life, so can positive changes.

Being a business owner means you don’t have a lot of time for yourself.  All of my sessions are by Zoom so you don’t need to worry about rushing from place to place.  I have written a blog about the benefits of online counselling here.  If you have any concerns or questions about online counselling I’m happy to discuss them with you.
