Every woman’s journey is unique, shaped by their dreams, circumstances, and choices. Having walked the path of living childfree myself, I know that the feelings and experiences can be complex, and not always as black and white as people think. Finding Felicity Counselling offers a safe, judgement-free space for you to explore your best hopes and discover a fulfilling path forward.
Who We Support
While childfree and childless are uniquely defined and come with their own challenges, we recognise that these experiences aren’t as separated as many expect. Deciding to have children or not can bring up a mix of emotions and social pressures. You may resonate with the uncertainty of purpose or identity, fear around motherhood, or the feeling that a choice is being forced.
At Finding Felicity Counselling we will address topics such as:
- self-identity and purpose
- managing social expectations and personal boundaries
- navigating relationships with friends, family, and partners
- work through feelings of grief and loss
- creating a life that aligns with your best hopes, values, and desires.
My Approach
I know it can be hard to decide which counsellor is best for you. While rapport is the most important thing to consider, I believe in being transparent about the approach I use.
Solution-Focused Therapy
Also known as Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, SFT is a questions based approach which explores your best hopes. The word ‘brief’ was used by the creators of SFT to show that this evidence-based approach was as successful in helping clients as other approaches such as psychoanalytic therapy but in much less time.
Solution-Focused Therapy doesn’t require you to discuss past trauma events in order to start the healing process. Some clients feel that they need to say what happened to them; this may be the first place they’ve felt safe enough to do so. But if it’s something you don’t want to do you don’t need to. Instead the questions I ask will focus your attention to what you want your life to be, not what it was.
While I was introduced to SFT during my studies, I have continued to develop my skills post graduation. I recently completed level 1 certification of Elliott Connie and Adam Froer’s Diamond Approach to SFT and regularly engage in supervision and consultation with other Australian Solution-Focused therapists.
Existentialism
In my experience, many of life’s anxieties come from the unknown. It’s common for people to come to counselling with anxiety about their future, especially in light of the problems we see around the world. Existential therapy helps you understand your place in the world, form a strong sense of identity, create meaning, address feelings of isolation, and find a sense of freedom.
While the modality I use is solution-focused, questions around existential hopes may be asked. These questions explore your own beliefs and values. A belief in God or a Creator isn’t necessary nor will it be forced onto you. This is a safe place for you to explore your beliefs without judgement or fear of consequences.
The Four Temperaments
Who doesn’t love a personality test? Ok maybe not everyone. But did you know that most modern personality tests – including Jungian Archetypes and Myers Briggs – evolved from one source? The Four Temperaments dates back to Hippocrates and can be traced through Ancient Greece, the Persian Empire, Andalusia, before being introduced to Europe.
Our temperament is more than just whether you’re an introvert or extrovert. It’s who we innately are. It’s why we either love being around other people or get tired. Why we react intensely or aren’t affected. It’s why we either lead with feelings or logic. None of these attributes are weaknesses. In fact learning about your temperament can help you learn how to lean into your strengths.
